Albustan - Hortas do Sol

Albustan - Hortas do Sol is a small organic farm located in Bensafrim, in the Algarve region of Portugal. Its name comes from Arabic, meaning 'the abundant garden', reflecting the project's philosophy of working in harmony with the land, building soil health rather than depleting it, and growing only what is in season, without chemicals or shortcuts. Every week, the farm harvests, washes and hand-packs fresh vegetables the same morning they are delivered, offering seasonal veggie boxes in three sizes: Mini (1-2 people), Couple (2-3 people) and Tribe (4+ people), with prices starting from €15. Add-ons such as wholewheat bread and organic, refined-sugar-free cakes from a local partner are also available. Customers can subscribe for 3, 6 or 12 months to receive discounts of up to 15%, with the option to pause at any time. Albustan operates a multi-day pickup and delivery system across the western Algarve, with collection points in Bensafrim, Lagos, Luz, Barão de São Miguel, Salema, Vila do Bispo, Aljezur, Silves, Lagoa, Albufeira and Monchique, bringing fresh, local produce within reach of communities throughout the region. Beyond selling produce, the farm welcomes visitors to spend a half-day working the land in exchange for a fresh veggie box, requiring no prior experience - just enthusiasm and a love of real food. This reflects the project's broader values of patience, care and connection to the land, presenting farming as a relationship with the soil and the seasons rather than simply a means of production. Facing the common challenges of small-scale organic farming, Albustan has also turned to its community for financial support to help sustain and grow its regenerative practices.
