AlmaOhana

AlmaOhana is a cooperative (registered as Almaohana, CRL) and community based in Odemira, in Southwest Alentejo. Members describe it as a place to live, work and create together, with a partly renovated central homestead and an established garden and tree lines already in place. The group has hosted music events, vegan cooking classes with a member named Antonia, and workshops, and has connected with wider networks such as the Global Ecovillage Network and the Odemira Territorio Regenerativo initiative. The property spans two plots, one of 54+ hectares and one of 34+ hectares, set in rolling hills next to the Pego das Pias. Water is abundant: a natural spring, three wells, a water mine and two rainwater dams serve the land, giving it good farming potential. Submitted architectural plans point to future development options, including eco-tourism use of an existing legal house (up to 21,865 m², with room for up to 200 beds), a farmer's residence and agricultural support buildings. After years of building this project, the community is now selling the land for €870,000. They're looking for new caretakers to continue what they started, as the current members need a smaller home.
