Arambha Eco Village

Arambha Eco Village builds Superadobe domes from a natural mix of lime, sand and gravel, and uses them as living and gathering spaces on its land in Tabua, Madeira. The domes are designed to last and to keep a healthy indoor climate. They also serve as teaching models of low-impact, earth-based building. The project started in 2019 as both a permaculture demonstration site and an agritourism business. Today it's a regenerative land project and permaculture community on one of Portugal's most biodiverse islands, built around permaculture design, reforestation and ecological construction. Reforestation is central to the work. The community is restoring native plant species and working to increase biodiversity on the land. It uses agroforestry and food forest design to create productive ecosystems that support both the community's food sovereignty and habitat restoration. Visitors from across the world come for guided tours, hands-on workshops and longer immersive retreats, which make regenerative land practices accessible to them. The Barefoot School offers nature-based learning in ecological literacy and practical sustainability skills. Arambha is at Caminho do Pico Ferreiro, Tabua, and welcomes individuals, families and groups who want to experience the place or contribute to it.
