Living Seeds Sementes Vivas (LSSV) is an organic and biodynamic seed company based at Herdade do Couto da Várzea, near Idanha-a-Nova in central Portugal, close to the Spanish border. Founded in 2015, the company has grown into an international team of around 19 people with expertise in organic and biodynamic agriculture, seed production, plant breeding, marketing and sales. LSSV produces and processes high-quality, open-pollinated seeds for a wide range of crops, including vegetables, fruits, flowers, herbs, cereals and pseudo-cereals. Its catalogue spans lettuces and leafy greens, fruiting vegetables like tomatoes and peppers, legumes, root vegetables, aromatic herbs and a rich variety of flowers for pollinators, cut flowers and ornamental use, alongside traditional Portuguese seed varieties preserved for their cultural and genetic value. The company follows biodynamic principles, including cultivation aligned with lunar and cosmic rhythms, reflecting an ancestral approach to farming that respects natural cycles. LSSV actively promotes seasonal and local consumption, environmental stewardship, and knowledge-sharing about successful home gardening through its educational content and community engagement.
