Quinta Kania is a permaculture farm and ecological homestead located in Midões, Tábua, in the heart of central Portugal. Built from the ground up over eight years by its founders, Kasia and Franz, the farm serves as a hands-on demonstration site for sustainable and regenerative ways of living. The project is rooted in the belief that permaculture is the art of the possible, and every element of the farm — from its food forest and vegetable gardens to its naturally built structures — reflects this philosophy. The farm's main areas of focus include food forest design, ecological building, growing food using organic and regenerative methods, and fostering a local community network. Natural building is a particular passion at Quinta Kania: the team experiments with earthen techniques, repurposes recyclable materials, and works creatively with resources available directly on the land. Quinta Kania regularly hosts Permaculture Design Courses (PDCs), thematic workshops, retreats, and guided farm tours, welcoming beginners and experienced practitioners alike. The project also maintains an active blog — Permaculture News — sharing farm updates, DIY guides, and educational content about sustainable living. A newsletter keeps followers informed about new courses and blog posts. The farm is open to volunteers and garden carers who wish to immerse themselves in off-grid, ecological homestead life. With a warm and educational atmosphere, Quinta Kania strives to inspire others to adopt more sustainable lifestyles and to build resilient, nature-connected communities.
