Pela Terra

Pela Terra is an investment platform for sustainable agriculture in Portugal that links regenerative farming to the country's Golden Visa residency-by-investment programme. Its fund restores degraded farmland across the Alentejo, with a focus on olive groves, almond orchards and other sustainable farming operations that create local jobs and contribute to Portugal's rural economy. Investors put a minimum of €500,000 into a closed-end venture capital fund regulated by the CMVM. It's professionally managed and spread across diversified agricultural assets, and it targets annual returns above inflation alongside environmental impact. Pela Terra also presents the fund as a route to European citizenship. Investors and their families (spouse, dependent children and dependent parents) gain Portuguese residency, with only minimal physical presence in the country required, and become eligible for citizenship after ten years. The platform reports more than 260 American families onboarded and over €85M in assets under management. A separate, unrelated initiative shares the name. Pela Terra is also a biennial arts-and-ecology gathering in Idanha-a-Velha, Beira Baixa, which brings together artists, musicians and communities around land, ecology and cultural expression. It has been active in opposing large-scale solar park developments in the region. The gathering is community-driven and runs independently of the investment fund, as a grassroots movement centred on territory, biodiversity and cultural rootedness rather than financial investment.
