Resialentejo – Tratamento e Valorização de Resíduos, EIM is a municipal inter-municipal enterprise (Empresa Intermunicipal) founded on 28 February 2000 to manage the Waste Treatment and Valorisation System serving the Beja area of the Alentejo region in southern Portugal. Headquartered at Herdade do Montinho, near Santa Clara do Louredo, in Beja, the company operates infrastructure dedicated to the collection, treatment, sorting and valorisation of municipal waste generated by its associated municipalities. As a public-sector waste management entity, Resialentejo plays a central role in regional environmental services, helping local authorities meet legal obligations around waste diversion from landfill, recycling and recovery. The organisation has been operating for over two decades, marking its 22nd anniversary in recent years, and continues to expand its operational capacity. Resialentejo periodically recruits for operational roles, including waste plant operators, reflecting its ongoing activity and workforce needs in the region. The company maintains formal governance structures typical of Portuguese public enterprises, including a Board of Administration, and publishes annual reports and accounts. While not a grassroots sustainability initiative in the traditional sense, Resialentejo contributes to the circular economy and environmental sustainability of the Alentejo region through its core mission of waste treatment and material recovery, supporting the reduction of landfill dependency and promoting the reintegration of valorised materials into local economic circuits.
