Rewild the Future

Rewild the Future is a community and education hub located in a forest valley in central Portugal, dedicated to the transition towards off-grid living and ecological regeneration. The project's mission is to create an immersive space where individuals, families, and children can experience, learn about, and actively participate in sustainable living. At its heart is a commitment to disseminating knowledge and fostering an environment where the next generation can thrive in connection with the natural world. The hub offers a year-round Montessori-based programme for children aged 2 to 6, nurturing open, healthy, and natural learning. Each summer, children and families are invited to engage in exploration, learning, and outdoor activities in the heart of nature. The project also welcomes families considering relocation to Portugal for an alternative lifestyle, offering a chance to experience off-grid life firsthand before committing. Ecological restoration is central to the vision of Rewild the Future. Using proven permaculture design and syntropic agro-food forestry techniques, the team works to restore biodiversity and build ecosystem resilience in a landscape previously affected by overgrazing and eucalyptus monocultures, with the aim of achieving full sustainability. The project views its participants as co-creators of landscapes and guardians of life, working together to leave a positive legacy for the next seven generations. Volunteering opportunities are available, and the community actively calls for support in tree-planting and ecological restoration initiatives. Rewild the Future represents a holistic approach to sustainable living, blending education, ecology, community resilience, and a deep respect for nature.
