Soil & Sea

Soil & Sea is a permaculture farm and retreat centre on the island of São Miguel, Azores, offering retreats, consultancy, education, and community experiences rooted in regenerative farming and holistic living.

Soil & Sea is a permaculture farm, retreat, and community project located on the magical island of São Miguel in the Azores. Founded in February 2018 by a couple who spent years traveling the world and living in Africa, the project was born from a deep connection to the ocean and the soil, and a desire to reconnect humans with nature. Inspired by permaculture experiences at farms across Africa and Europe, the founders sought a home to realise their dream of a regenerative life and share it with others. Today, Soil & Sea offers a range of experiences including week-long retreats, one-day workshops, permaculture consultancy, and unique locally-made products. The project centres on values of caring for the earth, caring for people, building community and connection, and embracing joy through exploring the natural wonders of their island home. Their mission is to build a trustworthy, authentic example of alternative and regenerative living, offering experiences, products, and services that enlighten, empower, and energise all who encounter them. More than a business, Soil & Sea is described by its founders as a way of life and a source of meaning, aiming to make a constructive impact on the planet, the local community, and everyone who passes through. The project has built a community of guests and clients over the years, describing these relationships as the bedrock of lifelong friendships, and continues to welcome newcomers who wish to become part of their ongoing story of sustainable, joyful living rooted in respect for nature.
