Biofrade

Biofrade is a family-run Portuguese company producing and selling organic food, with shops and a vegetarian grocery-café across the Lourinhã, Parede, Torres Vedras and Lisbon areas. Founded in 1998 (organic farming since 1991), it was a pioneer in organic egg production in Portugal.
Biofrade is a family business based in the municipality of Lourinhã, in the Oeste region of Portugal, an area particularly well suited to high-quality vegetable production. The company began transitioning to organic farming in 1991 and, from 1998 onwards, dedicated itself entirely to the production and sale of certified organic products. Biofrade was a pioneer in Portugal in organic egg production and has since expanded into a wide range of organic groceries, fresh fruit and vegetables, and vegetarian gastronomy.
Beyond its own production, Biofrade partners with other national producers to ensure a diverse, year-round offer, and imports products when domestic organic supply is insufficient, giving it considerable experience in both import and export. The company operates several organic grocery shops, including in Lourinhã, Parede, Torres Vedras, Lapa and Setúbal, several of which combine a grocery with a vegetarian café or restaurant. Biofrade also takes part in organic markets, such as the Saturday morning market at the Jardim do Príncipe Real in Lisbon.
The company positions itself around values of sustainability, animal welfare and support for the local economy, working with small farmers who cultivate the land ethically and with care. Its products are grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers, aiming to preserve flavour, nutritional value and soil health while reducing environmental impact. Biofrade's ingredients also supply other sustainable food brands, such as organic beetroot used in plant-based burgers. Through its network of shops, cafés and market stalls, Biofrade makes organic food accessible to a growing base of health- and environmentally-conscious consumers across the Lisbon and Oeste regions.
Our Goal
To produce and sell certified organic products, promoting healthier eating and a more sustainable food system in the Oeste region of Portugal.
Our Wishes
Biofrade invites consumers to visit its shops and markets and support local, small-scale organic producers.
