Corkor is a Portuguese brand that handcrafts vegan accessories from genuine cork in Barreiro, as a cruelty-free alternative to leather. It makes bags, wallets, belts and tech accessories and sells them online to customers around the world.
Corkor makes handcrafted vegan accessories, mainly from cork fabric, in a workshop in Barreiro, Portugal. Vítor Lopes and Natália Guerreiro founded the brand in 2011. Cork is harvested from cork oak trees without harming the tree, and it's a natural, renewable and biodegradable material.
The brand took its inspiration from Portugal's cork oak forests and the energy of Barreiro. The founders set out to show that eco-conscious materials could be turned into functional everyday accessories. The range covers:
- bags for women and men: crossbodies, satchels, backpacks, totes, briefcases and messenger bags
- wallets: bi-fold, minimalist, RFID-protected, zip and travel passport holders
- belts in several widths and colours, for women and men
- tech accessories such as laptop sleeves
Cork is water-resistant, light and durable, so it works as a leather substitute for customers looking for ethical, sustainable alternatives. Using it supports Portugal's traditional cork industry, one of the country's most historically significant sectors and one that benefits the environment. Working with a fully renewable resource also puts the business in the circular economy.
