Granel Saloio is a bulk grocery store in Fontanelas selling certified gluten-free, organic, vegan and zero-waste products. Run by Tiago and Diana, it also organised the first Mercado Sustentável Fontanelas.
Granel Saloio is a bulk-goods grocery store based in Fontanelas, in the parish of São João das Lampas, Sintra. It sells teas, detergents, legumes, dried fruit, spices and a wide range of certified gluten-free, organic, vegan and zero-waste products, all measured out to the quantity customers need. Packaging is kept to a minimum, and orders are shipped in reused, eco-friendly materials.
The store is run by Tiago, who is coeliac, and Diana, who is vegan. Both describe sustainability as a way of life rather than a marketing angle, and that personal experience shapes what ends up on the shelves: allergen-free options, natural cleaning products and personal care items alongside the usual pantry staples. Customers can also drop off clean glass jars and containers for reuse.
Beyond the shop itself, Granel Saloio organised the first Mercado Sustentável Fontanelas, a one-day sustainable market bringing together local stallholders, talks and community participation. The event involved partners such as Reutiliza-Mente and other Fontanelas-based initiatives, and customer feedback afterwards already had the team thinking about a second edition.
Online, the store ships nationally, with free delivery on orders over €60 and next-day dispatch for orders placed before 2pm. It also lists surplus food through the Too Good To Go app and offers delivery through Uber Eats. A WhatsApp community connects regular customers, where the team shares news on bulk products, sustainability topics and upcoming workshops. Reviews consistently mention the store's Portuguese-made products, the range of options for gluten and lactose intolerance, and the team's helpfulness in guiding first-time bulk shoppers.
Our Goal
Granel Saloio runs a bulk-goods grocery store in Fontanelas, offering certified gluten-free, organic, vegan and zero-waste products so that sustainable, package-free shopping is an everyday option for the local community.
Our Wishes
The store hopes customers keep bringing their own containers and clean jars to refill, and welcomes people to join its WhatsApp community to discuss sustainability, new products and workshops.
