O Cais is an eco café, sustainable shop and community space in a 1765 building in Silves, beside the old Roman bridge. It serves plant-based food, supports local producers and works to the values of the circular economy.

Every item on the menu at O Cais is vegan or vegetarian, made with organic, locally sourced ingredients. The café serves fresh juices, smoothies, cocktails and mocktails, homemade syrups, artisanal beers, organic wines, loose-leaf teas and full plant-based meals. The name means 'The Quay' or 'The Dock' in Portuguese.
The building dates from 1765 and stands beside the ancient Roman bridge on the Rio Arade, in Silves, in the Algarve region of Portugal. Inside there is an old well that connects the river to the castle.
The eco shop sells handcrafted products, local art and ethically sourced goods, chosen to support local makers and keep environmental impact down. O Cais follows circular economy principles, choosing second-hand where possible, and works directly with local farmers and producers.
Events run regularly: open mic and jam sessions, film nights and cultural gatherings, making the space one for creativity, art, music and exchange.
O Cais is open Thursday to Monday, 10:00 to 16:00, and welcomes locals, travellers and curious souls alike.
Our Goal
O Cais wants to be a welcoming community hub in Silves, with plant-based food and drinks, sustainable products, and a space where people, creativity and local culture come together.

O Cais invites locals, travellers, artists and makers to connect, collaborate and cocreate, whether by sharing a meal, taking part in community events, or partnering with it as a local producer or project.
