O Cais — meaning 'The Quay' or 'The Dock' in Portuguese — is a unique eco café, sustainable shop, and community gathering place situated in Silves, in the Algarve region of Portugal. Housed in a building dating back to 1765 and located beside the ancient Roman bridge along the Rio Arade, O Cais carries the spirit of a historic meeting point where journeys begin and end and where the river meets the town.
At its core, O Cais is driven by a compassionate vision of living: every item on the menu is vegan or vegetarian, made with organic and locally sourced ingredients, crafted with care and honesty. The café serves fresh juices, smoothies, cocktails, mocktails, homemade syrups, artisanal beers, organic wines, loose-leaf teas, and wholesome meals that celebrate plant-based eating.
Beyond food, O Cais operates a sustainable eco shop offering handcrafted products, local art, and ethically sourced goods — a curated selection that reflects a commitment to supporting local makers and minimising environmental impact. The space embraces circular economy principles, choosing second-hand where possible and working hand in hand with local farmers and producers.
