The Loop Co.
The Loop Co. is a Portuguese group of companies that began as a University of Coimbra spin-off. It develops circular economy platforms such as Book in Loop, BabyLoop and the SaaS ERP LoopOS, and has grown into an international group with offices in Portugal, the UK and India.
The Loop Co. builds digital platforms for the circular economy, from marketplaces for reused products to LoopOS, a no-code drag-and-drop SaaS ERP for circular economy flows. It's a Portuguese technology group.
It started in 2016 as a spin-off within the IPN institution at the University of Coimbra and launched Book in Loop, a marketplace for reused products. The company later partnered with Sonae MC on the platform's second generation. In 2019 it became the first social project in Portugal to receive venture capital funding.
In 2020 the company launched BabyLoop, a circular marketplace for safe, quality-assured childcare products, fronted by TV host Carolina Patrocínio. That same year it founded BiLD Analytics, a data science firm later sold to Ascent.
The business is now structured as The Loop Co. group, with two subsidiaries, Loop Future and Loop Circular. Since then it has expanded. During the COVID-19 pandemic it developed platforms used for testing and vaccination logistics, and it renewed its retail partnerships with Continente and Note. By 2022 it had more than 100 collaborators and had opened new offices and a logistics centre in Coimbra.
LoopOS, its flagship product, was released alongside ZEROO Smart Packaging. In the same period the group acquired ColorElephant, Hydradev, Certwo and Ovyo.
The Loop Co. has offices in Coimbra, Leiria, Lisbon, Porto, Brighton (UK) and Bengaluru (India). It puts its emphasis on technology development, measurable environmental and social impact, high staff retention and international growth in the circular economy sector.
Our Goal
The Loop Co. wants to push the circular economy forward. It builds technology platforms and software, including LoopOS, Book in Loop and BabyLoop, that let businesses manage buybacks, returns, trade-ins, repairs, C2C and renting, and measure their sustainability impact as they do it.
