The Loop Co.
The Loop Co. is a Portuguese group of companies born from a University of Coimbra spin-off, developing circular economy platforms such as Book in Loop, BabyLoop and the SaaS ERP LoopOS. It has grown into an international group with offices across Portugal, the UK and India.
The Loop Co. is a Portuguese technology group dedicated to advancing the circular economy through innovative digital platforms. Originating as a spin-off embedded in the IPN institution at the University of Coimbra in 2016, the company launched Book in Loop, a marketplace for reused products, later partnering with Sonae MC for its second-generation platform. In 2019, it became the first social project in Portugal to receive venture capital funding. The following year, the company launched BabyLoop, a circular marketplace dedicated to safe, quality-assured childcare products, fronted by TV host Carolina Patrocínio, and founded BiLD Analytics, a data science firm later sold to Ascent. Structured as The Loop Co. group with subsidiaries Loop Future and Loop Circular, the company has since expanded significantly, developing platforms used during the COVID-19 pandemic for testing and vaccination logistics, and renewing retail partnerships with Continente and Note. By 2022 it surpassed 100 collaborators and opened new offices and a logistics centre in Coimbra. Its flagship product LoopOS, a no-code drag-and-drop SaaS ERP for circular economy flows, was released alongside ZEROO Smart Packaging, alongside acquisitions of ColorElephant, Hydradev, Certwo and Ovyo. The Loop Co. now operates offices in Coimbra, Leiria, Lisbon, Porto, Brighton (UK) and Bengaluru (India), combining strong technology development with an emphasis on measurable environmental and social impact, high staff retention, and international growth in the circular economy sector.
Our Goal
The Loop Co. aims to drive the circular economy forward by building technology platforms and software (like LoopOS, Book in Loop and BabyLoop) that enable businesses to manage buybacks, returns, trade-in, repairs, C2C and renting while measuring their sustainability impact.
