Ownever

Founded in March 2021, Ownever is a Portuguese fashion house dedicated to creating luxury handbags that honour traditional craftsmanship and are built to last a lifetime. Each bag is made in limited batches alongside Portuguese master artisans — among the last of their kind — using unique materials and time-honoured techniques that are quietly disappearing. Every piece is designed with a repair-first philosophy: rather than being discarded, bags can be restored and cared for indefinitely through Ownever's dedicated repair atelier, Ownever Repair, launched with specialised artisans. Beyond the product itself, Ownever places great emphasis on storytelling and heritage. Every bag arrives in a handcrafted box created by two Portuguese artisans: a tile artist inspired by the centuries-old tradition of Portuguese azulejos, and one of the country's last handmade luxury box makers, who has practised her craft for nearly four decades. These collaborations celebrate themes of legacy, transmission and the often invisible hands behind fine craftsmanship, frequently highlighting the contribution of women artisans across generations. Ownever has gained recognition beyond Portugal, being the only Portuguese brand nominated in two categories at the Gerety Awards, and later awarded Gold in Sustainability and Bronze in Print Campaign at the Prémios Lusófonos da Criatividade for a campaign addressing gender inequality. Rooted in ethical and transparent production, the brand positions itself as an alternative to fast fashion, promoting durability, repairability, and the preservation of Portuguese artisanal heritage through contemporary design.
