Quinta Maravilha is an agroecological farm near Palmela, Portugal, that grows organic produce and distributes it through a community-supported AMAP basket scheme. Founded in 2017, it combines regenerative farming with community building, education and food sovereignty.

Quinta Maravilha is an agroecological farm located near Palmela, Portugal, founded in 2017 by Paula and Henrique with the dream of becoming self-sufficient and raising their family in close connection with nature. What began as depleted, abandoned land has since been transformed into living soil rich in biodiversity, through years of regenerative practices that avoid synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers. At the heart of the project is the belief that food is a common good. The farm produces fresh, organic vegetables distributed within a 20km radius of Palmela to minimize environmental impact and preserve freshness. To sustain this model, Quinta Maravilha created the AMAP Maravilha (Associação para a Manutenção da Agricultura de Proximidade), a community-supported agriculture partnership connecting farmers directly with 'coproducers' who commit to purchasing baskets over a six-month season. This arrangement guarantees financial stability for the farm while fostering mutual support, shorter supply chains, and a genuine connection to where food comes from. Distribution points are spread across Almada, Azeitão, Barreiro, Setúbal and Algeruz, and the community gathers monthly for an 'Ajudada' — a hands-on volunteer farming day. Beyond food production, Quinta Maravilha offers educational visits, shares agroecological knowledge, and builds local partnerships, contributing to several Sustainable Development Goals. The project is also part of Regenerar, the Portuguese Network for Solidarity Agroecology, and supports broader social justice causes. Rooted in respect for natural cycles, mutual aid and solidarity, Quinta Maravilha represents a living example of how small-scale agroecology can nurture both land and community simultaneously.

Our Goal

Quinta Maravilha aims to produce healthy, chemical-free food through agroecological methods that regenerate soil and biodiversity, while building food sovereignty and dignified working conditions for farmers.

Our Wishes

The project welcomes new coproducers to join its AMAP basket scheme, as well as local partnerships and volunteers to help with hands-on farm days.
