Quinta Vale Do Tourão
A 38-hectare organic farm in Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, run by the Lourenço family since the 1960s, produces almonds and sheep's milk and protects two native Portuguese breeds: the Churra Mondegueira sheep and the Mirandesa donkey.
Quinta Vale Do Tourão is a 38-hectare family farm in Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, in inland Portugal. The farm's plantations comprise 10 hectares of almond orchard, 5 hectares of olive grove, 2.5 hectares of hazelnut trees, 1.2 hectares of vineyard, a lavender plantation and various cereals. All crops are grown using organic production methods.
The farm protects two endangered native Portuguese breeds. The land has belonged to the Lourenço family since the 1960s, spanning three generations. Telma Lourenço has managed the farm since 2020 and has developed it through careful study and sustainable planning.
The vineyard grows the Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional grape varieties. The animals include Churra Mondegueira sheep, valued for their long wool and rustic hardiness, and Mirandese donkeys, known for their gentle temperament and distinctive dark coat. There are also ponies on the property.
To make the most of the farm's natural resources, the family has developed a range of local products made from sheep's milk and almonds, including natural sheep's milk soaps and various almond-based products. Through the tree sponsorship programme (*apadrinhamento*), visitors can symbolically adopt an almond or olive tree, follow its growth through photographs and even visit it in person. The organic almonds and handmade soaps are sold directly through the farm's Instagram page and by telephone.
Our Goal
To sustainably manage the family's 38-hectare Quinta in Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, growing almonds, olives, hazelnuts, lavender and organic cereals and maintaining a vineyard, while at the same time preserving native Portuguese animal breeds and transforming the Quinta's own resources into artisanal products.

The Quinta welcomes anyone who would like to sponsor an almond tree or an olive tree, buy its organic produce or visit the estate to learn about sustainable, traditional farming.
