Quinta Vale Do Tourão
Quinta Vale Do Tourão is a 38-hectare organic farm in Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, run by the Lourenço family since the 1960s, producing organic almonds, olives and wine while raising native Portuguese sheep and donkey breeds.
Quinta Vale Do Tourão is a family-run agricultural estate located in Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, in the Portuguese interior, spanning 38 hectares of land that has belonged to the Lourenço family for three generations since the 1960s. Since 2020, the farm has been managed by Telma Lourenço, who has developed its potential through careful study and sustainable planning. Today the estate includes 10 hectares of organic almond orchards, 5 hectares of organic olive groves, and 1.2 hectares of vineyard growing Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional grapes. The farm also raises native Portuguese breeds under threat of extinction, including the Churra Mondegueira sheep, prized for its long wool and rustic hardiness, and the Mirandesa donkey, known for its docile temperament and distinctive dark coat. Ponies are also kept on the property. In order to make full use of the farm's natural resources — sheep milk, wild rosemary, and almonds — the family developed a range of endogenous products, including natural sheep milk soaps and various almond-based goods. Quinta Vale Do Tourão also runs a tree sponsorship (apadrinhamento) program, allowing visitors to symbolically adopt an almond or olive tree, follow its growth through photos, and even visit it in person. The farm sells its organic almonds and handmade soaps directly through its Instagram page and by phone contact, embodying a philosophy of honoring the past while looking toward a sustainable future for the land and its traditions.

To sustainably manage a 38-hectare family farm in Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo through organic almond, olive and vineyard production, while preserving native Portuguese animal breeds and transforming endogenous farm resources into artisanal products.
