Ecovillages in Portugal

Portugal has a long ecovillage history, shaped partly by ideas about community and partly by access to rural land. Some are decades old; others are still taking shape.

Quinta do Vale da Páscoa sits in the centre of the country. Loura is one of the newer communities still taking shape. What they have in common is that housing, food, water and decision-making are treated as one question rather than four.
