Community resilience in Portugal

Fires, drought and the pandemic made resilience a concrete question in Portugal. It means the practical things a place can do for itself: grow some of its food, hold its own water, know who lives alone.

Biovilla runs a cooperative in the Arrábida hills. Re.Rural works from the transition village of São Luís. Coopérnico organises citizens around renewable energy nationally, Aldeia Inclusiva builds a rural community in Monção, and Unidos em Defesa de Covas do Barroso is what resilience looks like when a village organises against a mine.
